Another bad control panel - c.p. -
Add me to the list of people who have had this for almost exactly three years when the control panel shorted out. This was my second GE over the range microwave to go bad in 3-4 years. It is also the LAST GE microwave I will ever own.

One of the kids noticed that it was turning on by itself, so I went in to check on it. Sure enough, no matter what I did to shut it off, it would turn itself back on for different time and power settings. I left the door open to see what would happen and that's when the warning came on saying that there is a shortage in the control panel. I had to unplug it to get it to stay off. Glad this happened during the day while we were nearby and not away or asleep!

Would love to find something that can actually last more than 5 years, but just not enough reviews out there.

This microwave was great for about 4 years. Then it started to cut out while something was cooking and over time would only cook for a few seconds before giving out. Repair person said the circuit board or processing board is broken and it will cost more to fix it than to buy a new one. He said there's no reason to buy the same model again because the same design flaw still exists. So save your money (and the landfill) and buy something with more staying power!

We bought this microwave just under 4 years ago. It was wonderful - it cooked everything quickly and evenly. It softened, it cooked popcorn, it defrosted well. Sadly, it stopped working with a flash of light. I called the repair people from GE and waited a week to have them come. The man looked at it and said the the magnetron (a part that is covered)went bad. A total of 0 dollars to fix. Okay, fast forward a week. The repair is done, the microwave still doesn't work. Now the bill is 0, with no guarantee that it will work. No thanks! I loved this microwave, but apparently GE microwaves are breaking after only a few years. I have read countless reviews about how it's "wonderful while it works". If microwaves are going to be disposable, they should have a price to reflect that....I will miss it, but overall I feel cheated.
